2007-2008 PTA Membership Awards

Northshore Council PTSA is proud to announce that three PTA's have attained the Platinum Level Award for membership. This award is given to all local units who, by March 30, 2008, increased their membership by 20 % over last year's membership. We thank these units for their excellent work in increasing membership and urge all units to continue their membership campaigns. These units were recognized at the May 19 Northshore Council PTSA general meeting. Congratulations!

Reminder to all local units!

Enroll Your 2008-2009 Officers now at www.wastateptambrs.org

Check the Membership Enrollment Site for Duplicates
Log on to the site and click on the Membership Reports link on the top menu bar. Look on the left menu bar and click on Membership Roster. Scroll through the list of members and write down the ID numbers of any duplicate members. Email support@wastatepta.org to have the duplicates removed.

If you did not do this by May 31, 2008, your unit may receive an invoice for the
duplicate members entered into your PTA’s roster.

While on the Site Enroll Your 2008-2009 Officers
Write the ID numbers down for the new officers. Click on the 2008-2009 Incoming Officers link at the top of the screen. Enter the ID number for each officer in the appropriate field position. Click on the preview button and make sure the name matches the position, then click the submit button.

If this is not done, the State PTA office will not know the names of the new officers, and we will not know where to send important information that is mailed out in July. If your PTA is unable to enter the incoming officers, contact Melissa Anderson at support@wastatepta.org with their names, positions, and contact information. Make sure all incoming officers’ email addresses are current.

Note:
--Do not enter 2008-2009 members (other than officers) until after July 15.
--Once officers are entered, do not re-enter them when they pay their
membership dues. Doing so will result in doubles.

Highlights from the Northshore Council PTSA 6.10 - May 19, 2008

We recognized the 2008 Northshore Council PTSA 6.10 Scholarship recipients. These were well deserved by Molly Kutsick from Bothell High School, Alyssa London from Inglemoor High School, and Ryan Hogan from Secondary Academy for Success. Each of these recipients is an inspiration with their academic and community contributions.

Director of Communications Susan Stoltzfus gave us a preview of next year. All non-school, non-PTA kid mail will be converted to electronic form and be distributed through an electronic e-newsletter to be published by the district. The Northshore School District will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next
year, and Bothell High School will celebrate a grand re-opening November 1, 2008.

Karen Orsinger will be attending our Northshore Council PTSA meetings next year in place of Susan Stoltzfus. The Bothell Healthy Task Force is hosting an evening of information on “Understanding the Mysteries of the Teenage Mind”, presented by Victoria Tennant, on May 20. She also reported that district hopes to have an online version of the volunteer application out in the fall.

Northshore District School Board’s Janet Quinn reported on an afternoon retreat with the new superintendent, Larry Francois. They discussed “crucial conversations”. Janet is optimistic about the coming year. There will be new contact information for the school board members. Janet also reported that the CP Johnson Humanitarian Award was presented to students from each of our schools for the last time this year. The district will develop another award to recognize citizenship. Janet expressed a special thank you to Northshore Council PTSA President, Sudene Snyder, for her support of the school board during this difficult year.

Retiring Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education John Bond expressed his appreciation of the Northshore Council PTSA. He has been involved with PTA during all of his 36 years in the district. He feels privileged to have supported the PTA and feels it has contributed to making him a better person.

Outgoing Region 6 Director Sherry Marlin installed the 2008-2009 executive officers of the Northshore PTSA Council 6.10. Sue Freeman, delegate to the Washington State PTA Convention, reported on the convention. Over forty delegates from the local units in the Northshore Council PTSA attended. Many awards were presented to local unit PTAs in the Northshore School District.

The Northshore Council PTSA 2008-2009 budget was approved.

Legislative vice president Sherry Simmons reported that an emergency resolution passed at the Washington State PTA convention to support Algebra II as a graduation requirement.
