WA State PTA 2008 Convention

Over 40 delegates from Northshore spent the weekend of May 2 at the 2008
Washington State PTA Convention. We attended general voting sessions and
informative workshops. We listened to candidates at the State Superintendent
Forum, and a panel discussion about the WASL. Our eyes filled up (and yes, there was much sniffing and fumbling for Kleenex!) as students read their awesome essays about the important men in their lives. We sat in silence as Darrell Scott recounted the horrific events of April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School. His daughter, Rachel, was the first to be killed that morning, but her diaries have “become the foundation of one of the most life-changing school programs” in the country.

National PTA Secretary-Treasurer Betsy Landers and Executive Director of the Children’s Alliance Paola Maranan spoke at a general voting session and the Awards Banquet, respectively, and those great folks from AIM put together a hilarious (spoof) ‘video’ of a day in the life of their business.

When it came to awards, Northshore received many. They are listed in the article below.

So, that’s convention in a nutshell. Be sure to go next year – it’s well worth your time!
