Northshore PTSA Council Treasurer
The treasurer of the Northshore PTSA Council is an elected officer who serves on the Council's executive committee and board of directors. The treasurer shares the responsibility with the other board members of insuring that Council business is conducted in a prudent and financially sound manner.
The Northshore PTSA Council treasurer performs many of the functions for the Council that a local PTA treasurer performs for a local unit. The Council treasurer is responsible for paying bills, receiving income and maintaining financial records for the Council. The Council treasurer serves on the Council budget committee. The Council treasurer files the reports required by state and federal authorities. Every year a Charitable Solicitions Renewal Form and a Nonprofit Corporation Annual Report must be sent to the Washington Secretary of State office. A 990-EZ form may be required by the Internal Revenue Service. The treasurer also purchases insurance for the Council.
The Council treasurer also has responsibilities that are part of the Council's obligation to serve the needs of the local units. One of the Northshore PTA Council's functions is to collect membership dues from the Northshore local units on behalf of the state and national PTA. The Council treasurer works with the Council membership chairperson to process the dues submitted by the local units. The Council treasurer sends the state and national portion of those dues to the Washington State PTA office. This is generally the breakdown of the fees:
• National PTA $1.75
• State PTA $4.50
• Council PTA $1.50
• Local Unit per Standing Rules; typically incorporates the fees
The Northshore PTSA Council treasurer serves as a resource and a spokesperson for the local units on financial issues. Local unit treasurers may contact the Council treasurer if they have questions. The Council treasurer sends information pertaining to the financial management of PTAs to the local unit treasurers. The Council treasurer may also represent the Northshore local units in interactions with the Northshore School District.
