VOLUNTEERS DURING DISASTER RESPONSE

 An annual survey of school neighbors and parents should be conducted
o Who is willing and available during the day to help during a disaster?
o What skills do they have? Construction? Medical? Psych?
o Do they have fuel or tools that the school could use?

 A State Patrol background check is required of all volunteers who come in contact with students. This applies to a disaster setting as well.

 The list of pre-screened volunteer should be kept in the container.

 Neighbors who live next to school gates can be educated to provide general information and comfort to waiting parents.
